Steam summer sale reddit6/19/2023 ![]() + Minigames: Three separate minigames that you can play at any time to unlock perks and stat increases. Shotgun that shoots exploding cannonballs? Minigun that shoots electrified bees? Yes. + Loot: Guns can rival Borderlands with how crazy they get. Was not expecting to sling myself around levels like a superhero while carpet-bombing zombies, but it sure is fun. + Gameplay: Very punchy, very satisfying, lots of traversal options. A great deal of love went into this game, and it shows. You know how every edgy fan theory about a kid's cartoon is "What if this wild adventure is just the fever dream of a broken kid in a psych ward"? Blazing Bit took that concept and ran with it, giving us a boomer shooter that is just one constant wild ride of explosions and blood and weird guns. My suggestion for all boomer shooter fans is Nightmare Reaper, a game I loved so much I even wrote my first Steam review for it: Like your exact role on the ship being something you define as it goes on. There are a ton of different ways to go through the game, and the plot somewhat adapts to your decisions. One obscure immersive sim I enjoyed - and no one ever seems to mention - was "Karaski: What Goes Up." It's kind of an immersive espionage game, with you as a secret agent (maybe) onboard a giant dirigible in an alternate history/world sort of pre-WWI era. Then again, looks like it's only about five bucks atm, which is cheap enough. It's hard to recommend entirely on its own, especially since it's only a few hours long. On its own, it's a very ambitious and interesting attempt at a narrative-driven game where the story simply adapts to your decisions without any overt "Do X or Y?" prompts, but it ends very abruptly. It's more like a prologue to a bigger game, except that sequel has been in EA for more than five years now and god knows if/when it'll actually be completed. Without going even further tl dr on that point, I'll just say that GSG in their design, creativity, support, community interaction, integrity, passion and more, completely blow away the standards and expectations held of devs in today's gaming market.Ĭonsortium is. I couldn't be a big enough advocate for Ghost Ship Games as a developer. I don't think of it the same way as, say, L4D, where your experience solo or with randoms is decidedly lacking compared to co-op with friends. In over 30 years of gaming, DRG is one of my all-time favorite games. Still, I have also met the occasional dwarf who prefers solo missions, so there are multiple ways to enjoy DRG. Playing solo missions without a team (with your helper robot instead) is certainly viable and has been very well fleshed out, and I do run some occasionally, but that for me is like a daily challenge or alternate difficulty setting in that it is available, but not my go-to experience of the options. I personally find the community and playing with randoms to be excellent as the base game, and that getting a group of rl friends together in a squad is another great option/experience, but not at all necessary to enjoy the game.
